Travel Tissue Cover

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This Travel Tissue Cover is a fun little project that is great for using up those odds and ends of fabric that accumulate in all sewing rooms.   I have seen several tutorials for these online, each one a bit different.  I made a few adaptations to those tutorials, and really enjoyed making a few of these recently.   I've been carrying one of these in my purse ever since I first tried my hand at this project.   I love being able to find my tissues in my purse and … [Read more...]

Padded Pouch for Cell Phone

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After ruining my previous cell phone by dropping it repeatedly on our hard floor, I decided to make a padded pouch to protect my new cell phone. I checked out some cell phone pouches online to get a general idea what they look like since I'd never made one or owned one before.  I came up with the design that you see above.  It's a small rectangular pouch with a flap that will prevent the phone from falling out, but will also allow room for a cord to be plugged into the phone. I added … [Read more...]

Web Address Book Cover

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Last month, I bought Web Address Books for my husband and myself.  The books are exactly alike, so I decided to make us each a cover so that we would not be getting confused about which book belonged to whom. I chose the pink and white floral print for my book.  Jack's book is covered in two coordinating patriot prints.  (My selection of manly fabrics was limited, and I was sure he would not like a floral.) I didn't have a pattern for these covers, so I used the same method that I used … [Read more...]

A Bible Cover for My New Bible

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

"Getting old is not for sissies" or so the saying goes.  I have to agree!  We've got to be careful to keep our strength up as we age so that we have the muscle mass necessary for carrying around large print books. I recently graduated to a large print Bible.  My excuse for needing one is that I teach a class on Sundays and have to be able to read my Bible from the podium where I keep my notes.  At least that's my version of the story.  I bought my new large print Bible with Christmas … [Read more...]

Fabulous Fleece: No Sew Sofa Cover

100_0591

Fleece is such a versatile fabric!  Because it is made from 100% polyester and will not ravel or fray, it makes a great choice for no-sew projects.  I have two dogs, and for several years, I have been using fleece fabrics to protect our furniture from dog hair and nails. Both dogs love to lie on the back of the sofa to look out the window, so I keep that covered. In the above picture you can see the sofa cover that I made from one yard of fleece.  This particular snowman print is a … [Read more...]

Bottle Bags–Not Another Baby Gift

Earlier this month, I toyed with the idea of setting up at a craft show in November to sell some of my handmade goods.  After stressing for a week or so about how little inventory I had to sell, I decided to give up on  the craft show idea for this year.  The whole craft show thing wasn't a total waste though since I got several good ideas from friends for items to make and sell.  One of those items is a gift bag for bottled gifts like wine, flavored oils, sparkling juices, … [Read more...]
